  COCOBOLO-Wood and Trees
  Cocobolo Tree

Dalbergia Retusa
Hardwood

The Trees:

Cocobolo grows in the Pacific regions of Central and South America and is a smaller deciduous tree preferring drier upland areas. It is sometimes referred to under the name granadillo. Cocobolo is also a commercially grown tree in Costa Rica, harvested for its brilliant red wood.

The Wood:

Cocobolo is a very dense wood (it does not float) and is a beautiful deep red in color, with a high contrasting sap wood of white or yellow. It is prized for wood turning, although the dust is an irritant to some. Because of its density and natural oils it takes readily to polish. It is occasionally used as veneer for use in furniture.
