Artist Biography
I grew up in Minot, North Dakota, working in the garage with my father at a very young age. These experiences gave me the aptitude to operate machinery and honed my passion to work with my hands. At the same time, I always felt a strong desire to create artwork. In school, art classes encouraged and nurtured my innate talent. At home, my family instilled in me the values of hard work and practicality. Those early lessons-that beauty and usefulness are two sides of the same coin-still guide me.
I moved to Colorado in the 80's. I became an architectural woodworker with a large corporation. I was assigned the lead man position on many high-end projects including: a circular reception desk for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, a horseshoe-shaped conference table that was featured in Design Solutions Magazine, an elliptical staircase for a private home, and a domed rotunda library for Bill Gates which includes mahogany bookcases and a sunburst pattern floor. As my skill and experience grew, so did my passion for designing and creating my own work.
As an emerging artist working with fine woods, I strive to create uniquely beautiful works that are also useful and functional. Visualization is like my sixth sense. I let my ‘mind's eye' direct my projects. I express my creativity through physical, hands-on craftsmanship honed by years of practice.
