Artist Biography

Art's entry into the world of woodturning came in the mid 90's while  he was making experimental musical instruments.  The lathe was just  the tool needed to make some parts for an automated programmable xylophone.  After making that instrument, he continued turning wood  and eventually it took over his life.

Art prefers using local woods, primarily big leaf maple, with  occasional bits of other woods for accents.

Art's work is strictly non-functional - ranging from small pieces of  "shelf jewelry" to larger sculptural pieces. Much of his work has a  humorous or whimsical quality, but there is also a more serious tone to some of his pieces.

Art's work is in collections on most of the major continents.  He has written several articles for woodturning and woodworking magazines and  is also in demand as a demonstrator at national and regional symposia  and at woodturning clubs.
